Listening to the body

It is a goal of mine to teach my clients self care tools that can be used to access a deeper connection with their own innate wisdom. Learning to connect to ourselves and trust ourselves allows us to know how to better take care of ourselves by listening to what our bodies need in each moment.

acupuncture

Acupuncture

Acupuncture works by placing needles into the body, which stimulates the body to heal itself. The meridians are like waterways in the body, and when there is a blockage or dam of energy it creates a flooding of energy or Qi in one area and a deficiency of Qi flow in another. Acupuncture is a way of reconnecting these pathways.

gua sha

Gua Sha

Gua Sha is a massage technique which utilizes an instrument to increase microcirculation of the affected area. Gua Sha helps to break down scar tissue and adhesions within the soft tissue to clear blockages in the body and promote healing.

fire cupping

Fire Cupping

The cups create a suction on the skin which helps increase blood flow and stimulates the body’s healing response to reduce pain. Cupping also stimulates the lymphatic system to promote detoxification. There is an old Chinese adage that “where there is stagnation there will be pain. Remove the stagnation, and you will remove the pain.”

herbal consulations

Herbal Consultations

Herbal Medicine is a foundational aspect of Chinese Medicine. Herbal formulas reinforce the effects of the treatment in-between sessions, are helpful in treating complex issues, prevent illness, and support resilience in the body.

tui na

Tui Na

Tui Na is the Chinese medical version of massage therapy that opens the body’s channels using traction, joint mobilization, and passive stretching of the limbs to help increase blood circulation and relaxation.

internal cultivation qi gong

Internal Cultivation

Qi Gong is an internal cultivation method that utilizes gentle movements, breathwork, and focused intention to increase Qi vital energy. It harmonizes the body-mind connection to improve stability, promoting an overall sense of wellbeing.

Your Initial Acupuncture Treatment includes:

A Thorough Intake
This is an important part of the treatment that allows me to more fully connect to the person in front of me, and invites them to express their unique story, which can be healing in and of itself. The intake affords me more insight into the larger picture of my client’s life; indicating how lifestyle, past traumas, and history of health contributes to the current situation.

Meridian Palpation
I incorporate palpation along specific channels as a diagnostic tool to search for nodules and other areas of irregularity in the tissues. This diagnostic method is specific to Classical Chinese Medicine and helps give information about which meridians are out of balance, and where the stagnation is present along the channel. There is an old adage in Chinese Medicine, “wherever there is stagnation there is pain.”

Adjunctive Technique
In each Initial treatment I include at least one adjunctive technique; this may be Cupping, Gua Sha, Tui Na or Moxibustion, depending upon the individual’s need within the session. These adjunctive therapies further help support the Acupuncture treatment.

Lifestyle Advice
Following the first treatment I give each of my clients a follow up treatment plan. A treatment plan allows clients to learn self care practices to be proactive in preventing illness, and cultivating wellness. Lifestyle advice may include the prescription of an herbal formula, dietary recommendations, suggested treatment frequency, Qi gong and movement routines, or acupressure points that a client can learn to stimulate on their own.
